Overview

This is a major new development for Perth International Airport and includes the connection of the new Domestic terminal T2 to a brand new departures pier attached to the main international terminal T1 building.  The project includes the construction of 9 departure gates and a new international departures expansion for the main terminal building.

Atelier JV was appointed by Built Environs to cover secondary structural steelwork design and documentation for the project to enable the facades to be constructed and also worked for Built Environs' sub-contractors in both our Facade Engineering and Structural Engineering capacity.   Our work on the project lead to the design of many aspects of the building, including the facades, internal fit out, baggage handling and aircarft gate navigation stands.

Key Structural & Façade Design Features

The key to this project was the coordination between consultant’s designs and the façade sub-contractors packages together with the ability to work across multiple areas of the project and stitch together solutions that enabled the contractor to deliver the project as envisaged by the client.   Atelier JV’s strong problem solving and facade experience gave us the ability to resolve these issues quickly and with simple solutions.

The project included 15 façade types that involved secondary steelwork requirements including a storey height set of 3 dimensional trusses wrapping around the International departures building to form the West and South facades.   48 tonnes of steel went into this set of trusses alone.

Working for the BCS airport controls sub-contractor atelier JV designed the gate navigation stand equipment poles and frames, the foundations for the aerobridges and carried out design verification and required modifications for the of the baggage handling hung conveyor platfrom structure.
