Reed House
Overview
This project refurbished a 1908 house in Subiaco into contemporary home for a young family, involving alterations and additions to the property.
This project was recently featured in the 2020 WA Architecture Awards.
Key Structural Design Features
Overall construction of off-form concrete and textured brick. The fulcrum of the house is the dining space, which has been excavated by 600mm. This allows a continuous concrete element that binds up the first floor suspended slab with a courtyard roof system to slip under the eaves of the existing house, creating a little gap through which reflected light can enter and wash the ceiling.
